Bully Pulpit

The term "bully pulpit" stems from President Theodore Roosevelt's reference to the White House as a "bully pulpit," meaning a terrific platform from which to persuasively advocate an agenda. Roosevelt often used the word "bully" as an adjective meaning superb/wonderful. The Bully Pulpit features news, reasoned discourse, opinion and some humor.

Empty Promise

From the Cato Institute:

Last week, Texas state senators heard testimony from top university officials about changes to a state law that automatically admits top-ranked high school students to the University of Texas. UT President Larry Faulkner told senators that the law is outdated because schools can now consider race instead.

Affirmative action, once abolished by court order in Texas, is legal again due to a more recent Supreme Court decision. But Texas lawmakers should not be fooled into thinking that preferences are good policy.
