Liberalism
I believe it is always difficult for those of the opposite persuasion to relate to the mindset of the liberal. I do not believe it is fair to question our intelligence or our sincerity, just like it is wrong to question that of the conservative.
The definition of liberal is:
Not limited to or by established, traditional, orthodox, or authoritarian attitudes, views, or dogmas; free from bigotry.
Favoring proposals for reform, open to new ideas for progress, and tolerant of the ideas and behavior of others; broad-minded.
I find this belief system to be far from un-intelligent or arrogant. And "open to new ideas" sort of goes against your theory that we don't research matters, doesn't it? I am constantly researching issues that interest me and I am not afraid to read and listen to the opinions of those with differing views. Participating in this blog proves that. I believe it is important to know and understand both sides as best you can to better understand why you feel the way you do.
What doesn't make sense to liberals about a large number of conservative is the fact that their party isn't representing their interests. When we see low income folks voting for an agenda that ultimately benefits only the wealthy in this country, we have to question the motives and who or what is influencing them. Another differences is the fact that liberals don't feel the need to tell others how to live their lives. We know that morality can not be legislated and understand the danger of attempting to do so. It's a slippery slope. Where do we draw the line as to what is appropriate behavior?
