Bully Pulpit

The term "bully pulpit" stems from President Theodore Roosevelt's reference to the White House as a "bully pulpit," meaning a terrific platform from which to persuasively advocate an agenda. Roosevelt often used the word "bully" as an adjective meaning superb/wonderful. The Bully Pulpit features news, reasoned discourse, opinion and some humor.

Dole takes more active role in the Senate

From the Winston-Salem Journal:

After two years of playing the role of dutiful foot-soldier in the Republican-controlled U.S. Senate, Elizabeth Dole is starting to step out as a national leader for her party and has become more comfortable in her role as an elected official from North Carolina.
