Bully Pulpit

The term "bully pulpit" stems from President Theodore Roosevelt's reference to the White House as a "bully pulpit," meaning a terrific platform from which to persuasively advocate an agenda. Roosevelt often used the word "bully" as an adjective meaning superb/wonderful. The Bully Pulpit features news, reasoned discourse, opinion and some humor.

Mark Steyn: Champion of European Imperialism

And, without rehashing the last millennium and a half, the Muslim conquest of Europe and then the Crusades and the fall of Andalusia, if you take out a map of the world and look at the rise of the European empires you notice a curious thing: in conquering the world the imperial powers for the most part simply bypassed the Islamic world.

Well, except for their roles in erratically splitting up the Ottoman Empire.

They made Africa and South Asia and Latin America and everywhere else seats of European power, but they left the Middle East alone.

Yeah, that's too bad European Imperialists didn’t help the Middle East like they did in bringing all their good time fun and societal know-how to the native people of Africa. Yep, that's the problem with the world today, says Steyn and friends: all that wonderful freedom-spreading imperialism stopped before rich white men from Europe ruled the whole world.

And, even when they eventually got their hands on the region, after the First World War, they made no serious attempt to reform the neighborhood. We live with the consequences of that today.

Yes, we’re all living with how those tribes were split down the middle by arbitrary borders. No doubt about that.
