Bully Pulpit

The term "bully pulpit" stems from President Theodore Roosevelt's reference to the White House as a "bully pulpit," meaning a terrific platform from which to persuasively advocate an agenda. Roosevelt often used the word "bully" as an adjective meaning superb/wonderful. The Bully Pulpit features news, reasoned discourse, opinion and some humor.

Steve's Public School Story

Over the last few days, Steve has been hot on the trail of socialistic public school teachers and evil government schools; if you're a frequent reader of the BP, you're used to this now. But maybe you've silently asked, time and time again, "Why, Steve? Why do you hate the public school system and its devoted, hardworking teachers so? Isn't 'education for all' one noble cause worth funding via tax revenue?"

I suggest that we wait no more, so Steve — enlighten us. How have US public schools hurt you and yours? What sort of first-hand, personal experiences and failures guided you to the conclusion that the institution is hurting us all? In retrospect, didn't public education entities serve you quite well? Or maybe not? You've obviously been wronged somewhere and are passionate about this issue, so to really be a help to readers, fire away with the personal testimony. We'd all be glad to finally know the source of this undying hate for public schools.

And besides, I have a super bright, happy-go-lucky 1 year old son to send somewhere for school sooner than I ever expected... Montessori schools, perhaps? We're weighing all options and the more opinions, the better.
