The term "bully pulpit" stems from President Theodore Roosevelt's reference to the White House as a "bully pulpit," meaning a terrific platform from which to persuasively advocate an agenda. Wife of Senator Robert C. Byrd Dies

Erma and Sen. Robert C. Byrd were married for almost 69 years.

West Virginia is mourning the death of Sen. Robert C. Byrd's wife, Erma Ora James Byrd, who died just before 8 p.m. Sen. Byrd and family members were with her when she died.
