Bully Pulpit

The term "bully pulpit" stems from President Theodore Roosevelt's reference to the White House as a "bully pulpit," meaning a terrific platform from which to persuasively advocate an agenda. Roosevelt often used the word "bully" as an adjective meaning superb/wonderful. The Bully Pulpit features news, reasoned discourse, opinion and some humor.

Brunstetter-Joines tie is an issue in the 31st

From today's Winston-Salem Journal:

Brunstetter-Joines tie is an issue in the 31st
Tabor points out that Brunstetter supported the mayor, a Democrat

RURAL HALL — Republican Pete Brunstetter's role in last year's re-election of Democrat Allen Joines as Winston-Salem's mayor is emerging as a hot issue in the 31st Senate District campaign.
Brunstetter, one of three Republicans trying to succeed the late Sen. Ham Horton in the 31st District, was a co-chairman of Joines' campaign. Before that, as the chairman of the Forsyth County Board of Commissioners, Brunstetter worked closely with Joines on such projects as the deal that brought Dell Inc. to the county.
Nathan Tabor, one of Brunstetter's primary opponents, has seized on Brunstetter's relationship with Joines.
"I give you my word: I will never, ever help elect a Democrat," Tabor told about 70 people yesterday at a candidates forum.
...the third candidate in the race, Gloria Whisenhunt, has not made the Brunstetter-Joines connection a campaign issue. Whisenhunt, who took over as the chairwoman of the board of commissioners after Brunstetter left it in 2004, said she has a working relationship with Joines but would never support him in a campaign.
"I certainly vote Republican," she said. "I am a loyal Republican." Whisenhunt said she tries to focus on her own platform ra-ther than the other candidates. "I think the reason that Na-than is talking about it so much is that he doesn't have a record to talk about," she said. "He's never voted on diddly squat."
...Unlike his two opponents, who have both been county commissioners, Tabor has never held elective office. He founded a Web site for conservative commentary and ran unsuccessfully for Congress in 2004.

I guess that's all you can come up with when you're a newbie politician with no sense, no appeal, and no voting record: just talk to the voting public like they're a bunch of morons. It's no wonder politicians frequently end up becoming dirty. To win the first time around, you have to manipulate your base with bullsh*t.

This Nathan Tabor seems like one silly kid. Note I said 'kid' — he's the same age that I am, yet he seems to be missing valuable life experience. If he wasn't, he'd know that any organization without an overall sense of levelheaded teamwork and mutual support is doomed. He obviously wants to be a part of the problem, not the solution. Good guys — and girls — reside on both sides of the party line; he doesn't seem to recognize that fact. So speaking of 'doomed,' Tabor's political career, judging from his campaign tactics, is.
