Bully Pulpit

The term "bully pulpit" stems from President Theodore Roosevelt's reference to the White House as a "bully pulpit," meaning a terrific platform from which to persuasively advocate an agenda. Roosevelt often used the word "bully" as an adjective meaning superb/wonderful. The Bully Pulpit features news, reasoned discourse, opinion and some humor.

RE:BBC reports: 'Country profile — United States of America'

Well, this is a very humorous illustration of just how far out of touch with reality the BBC actually is. No wonder their stories on current events in the US always have a Monty-Python-esque character.

They blew it in the very first sentence:

Ethnic and racial diversity - the "melting pot" - is celebrated as a core element of the American ideology.

First, the "melting pot" of American society is about assimilation, not diversity. Second, multiculturalism is a core ideology of the academic elite and their somewhat retarded lackeys and followers. In poll after poll, writing after writing, the core ideology of the man on the street in the great heartland of America is that assimilation is the key to the American Dream.

...which, uniquely among modern nation-states, has remained unchanged in form since its inception.

Here, the BBC shows its utter ignorance as to the "form" of federalism and simply adopts the lie used by the left to both cover its tracks in destroying federalism and to castigate as anachronistic those who would protect federalism. The original form of federalism outlined by the constitution was almost completely destroyed in the first quarter of the 20th century. Degenerate readings of the fourteenth amendment, the adoption of the sixteenth and seventeenth amendments, prohibition, the ascendancy of the judicial oligarchy, and the introduction of nearly universal suffrage have all either overwhelmed or neutered nearly every aspect of the federalism adopted in 1789.

The latter is exemplified in its international record on the environment, which has attracted criticism, and the need to maintain energy supplies, in which the US is not self-sufficient.

Can you say left-wing talking points? Sure you can. Nice job presenting an unbiased view, BBC. Not!

More than 30 million Americans live below the official poverty line, with a disproportionate percentage of these being African-Americans and Hispanics.

What the BBC fails to mention (of course) is that Americans living below the poverty line own houses, cars, television sets, and computers. I guess the BBC failed to notice the agenda underlying that "official poverty line."

This article is mis-titled. It should have been: "BBC Communists whine: What We Don't Like About the US, Disguised As a Country Profile."
