Bully Pulpit

Decker pleads guilty in Black probe

Winston-Salem Journal

Former Rep. Michael Decker of Walkertown, whose controversial actions in 2003 helped House Speaker Jim Black stay in power, pleaded guilty in federal court yesterday to a conspiracy charge. Prosecutors said that he accepted $50,000 in campaign contributions in exchange for his vote and for switch-ing his party affiliation from Republican to Democrat.

As part of his plea arrangement, Decker promised to help federal investigators with their wide-ranging investigation into campaign contributions and influence peddling surrounding Black, D-Mecklenburg.

I met and talked with Mike Decker on several occasions. I can honestly say I never trusted the guy. He was always long on rhetoric and short on action.
