Bully Pulpit

The term "bully pulpit" stems from President Theodore Roosevelt's reference to the White House as a "bully pulpit," meaning a terrific platform from which to persuasively advocate an agenda. Roosevelt often used the word "bully" as an adjective meaning superb/wonderful. The Bully Pulpit features news, reasoned discourse, opinion and some humor.

RE: Legalization for aliens a 'must,' Bush announces

Steve -> "Yep, you guys should just keep on voting Republican."

I don't know how you vote but I vote for the person, not the party. I would assume you're not voting for any Republicans this year or in the future.

-> "And lest you offer, "Oh, that's just Bush, the rest of the GOP is different," please offer concrete examples of consistent behavior by the GOP leadership to condemn Bush's position on this."

Isn't Bush the leader of the GOP? Wouldn't he be condemning himself?

-> "In fact, cite examples of effective action by GOP legislators to counter Bush's position."

They didn't pass the immigration bill he wanted; that was pretty effective if you ask me. They only passed the bill to build and fund 700 miles of fencing; they didn't pass the other stuff Bush wanted.
