N.C. court approves child spanking
A North Carolina appeals court made a controversial ruling this week involving the corporal punishment. They said it's OK to spank your child -- even hit them with a belt -- as long as it does not cause serious injury.
The ruling overturned a decision from a Pender County judge last year.
The ruling stems from a case in which a 13-year-old boy told a Pender County social worker his father was beating him with a belt, causing bruises to his body.
The case went to court where a judge convicted the father of child abuse. On Tuesday the North Carolina court of appeals overturned that decision and people we spoke with are in disbelief.
Amazing. This completely begs the question of whether or not spanking is any of the government's business. Until a child is emancipated, discipline is not the responsibility or concern of the government. I favor capital punishment for DSS employees who attempt to come between a parent and a child.
The problem is people like these:
Ok, George, leaving aside for the moment that you're obviously an idiot, what business is it of yours whether any other parent spanks their own child?
You know what I think, Elizabeth? I think you should keep your opinions to yourself. But you won't do that, will you Elizabeth? The media asking for an opinion from a three-sigma type like you is probably the most exciting thing that will happen to you for the rest of your empty and unsatisfying life.
God save us from people who are sure they know what's good for us. I hope every one of them suffers a plague of locusts and toads.

Local parent George Hartman said, "I think when you're spanking a child, you're basically failing as a parent."

Elizabeth Hartman said, "I think it is child abuse to use any kind of physical force against a child. Not that you don't think about it, but to actually do it, no."
