Of power and bombast
As I've said before, I understand why you got beat for reelection.
You just can't respond without resorting to ad hominem, can you? Grow up.
If the Democrats take control, the Bush plan will be passed.
Remind me which party Bush belongs to. And are you prescient? How can you be so sure? Furthermore, I would almost be willing to bet real money that even if the Democrats don't take over, the Bush plan will be passed. That little piece of RNC spinning tinsel won't even stand up to a light breeze.
With regard to the War in Iraq, we thought Iraq posed a threat at the time.
I don't know who "we" is. I thought no such thing and there were numerous others like me. Bush took advantage of the post 9/11 sentiment to push an agenda item from when his Dad was in office. Even had the alleged WMD existed, there is no indication that Hussein posed any threat to us as a sovereign nation.
What future freedoms do the Republicans want to take away?
This is where I refuse to allow you to piecemeal the argument. The Republican Administration and Congress have shown that they have no regard for the Constitutional limits placed on police action. Even the very language being used is horrifically Orwellian: secret tribunals, blanket surveillance. In this, they are identical to the Democrats, the difference being that the GOP uses fear and the Democrats use faux compassion. What makes the threat to liberty from the Republicans imminent is that they have captured the zeitgeist of fearful suspicion of everything Muslim and used it to advance the intrusive growth of national government police action. The genie is out of the bottle and when the Republicans fall from power, which they inevitably will, the next wave of power-mongers will use that genie to devastating result.
Did Reagan want to develop a North American mega-state during his fight with the Soviets?
I have no idea how that comment even remotely relates to this discussion.
