Bully Pulpit

The term "bully pulpit" stems from President Theodore Roosevelt's reference to the White House as a "bully pulpit," meaning a terrific platform from which to persuasively advocate an agenda. Roosevelt often used the word "bully" as an adjective meaning superb/wonderful. The Bully Pulpit features news, reasoned discourse, opinion and some humor.

Black for speaker? Surely not anymore

Jim Black's campaign for an unprecedented -- and unwise -- fifth term as speaker of the House took another hit Friday when The News & Observer outlined how Black created another job for the coordinator of the House page program after she resigned for having allowed pages to rent rooms from her son, a drug felon. Reporters Dan Kane's and Andrew Curliss' blockbuster surely makes it harder for stubborn Democrats to stick with Black.
