Bully Pulpit

The term "bully pulpit" stems from President Theodore Roosevelt's reference to the White House as a "bully pulpit," meaning a terrific platform from which to persuasively advocate an agenda. Roosevelt often used the word "bully" as an adjective meaning superb/wonderful. The Bully Pulpit features news, reasoned discourse, opinion and some humor.

Easley receives a failing grade in fiscal-policy study by group

Continuation of 'temporary' taxes despite budget surplus criticized by Cato Institute

A Libertarian research group in Washington gave Gov. Mike Easley one of its worst grades yesterday for fiscal policies that the group said keep North Carolina's taxes and spending growth high despite a revenue surplus.
