Forsyth Tech builds in King
KING (Winston-Salem Journal) - Forsyth Technical Community College will have a new campus in King by this time next year.
On Big Oaks Drive, near the R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co. Tobaccoville plant, construction workers have raised steel beams and poured concrete curbs for a main education building on the campus - part of the first stage of construction for the new Forsyth Tech campus.

Yet another testament to the inefficiency of state-supported education. There has never been sufficient demand for the services of a community college in Stokes County. Forsyth Tech, RCC, and UNC Dobson (a.k.a. Surry Community College) are close enough to service those few who desire it. Willis Overby browbeat them into opening a classroom in the old bank building in Walnut Cove a few years ago. They tried to hold some classes there, but it wasn't even worth the drive for the instructor to handle two or three students. Last time I knew, it was ironically being used for ESL classes.
While the new FTCC complex is in King proper....Big Oaks Drive is actually in Forsyth County. Look at the map and you will see. So King can make a dime off of this venture, but not Stokes County itself really.
Dr. Green intends on moving all of the entire horticulture and agriculture deprtment of FTCC to the new facilty located on Big Oaks Drive with in the next ten years
