Taxes may rise in Stokes

DANBURY (Winston-Salem Journal) - Stokes County Manager Bryan Steen has proposed a budget that calls for a 4.5 cent property-tax increase, no cost-of-living raise for county employees, and some county job cuts.

Steen, who became county manager in April, is proposing a $40 million budget for Stokes in 2007-08, which will begin July 1. The current property-tax rate is 60 cents for every $100 value.
