Bully Pulpit

The term "bully pulpit" stems from President Theodore Roosevelt's reference to the White House as a "bully pulpit," meaning a terrific platform from which to persuasively advocate an agenda. Roosevelt often used the word "bully" as an adjective meaning superb/wonderful. The Bully Pulpit features news, reasoned discourse, opinion and some humor.

We be luvin' life in Mississippi

From Sara:

Yet another link to yet another article on Salon.com…again, this is an unapologetically liberal site whose content I don't endorse 100%, but I thought this feature was pretty thought-provoking.

Mississippi has one functioning abortion clinic, with one working doctor. Thanks to a new law which prohibits abortions after 12 weeks, now it's even harder to get a (legal) abortion in Mississippi than it used to be. Note: this does not mean that extramarital sex and/or unplanned pregnancies aren't happening in Mississippi; just that women are either jumping through additional hoops to get a legal abortion in-state or are driving to Tennessee or Alabama. (Or are visiting their friendly back-alley provider.)

Or, as this writer points out, women who, say, can't scrape together bus fare to Memphis or can't tell that they're three months pregnant are now becoming mothers. Well, I feel better already.

The only thing she left out of her trite little rant was some BS about coat hangers.

Considering that 75% to 80% of all abortions are done for reasons of convenience, Sara's nonsense about a veritable flood of unwanted children due to the fact that their mothers aren't allowed to murder them rings pretty hollow. I'm not sure how people like Sara live with themselves. It must be awful to wake up in the morning realizing that you're an inhuman monster.
