Stokes board approves 5 percent tax on car rentals for bus service
DANBURY (Winston-Salem Journal) - The Stokes County Board of Commissioners unanimously approved a 5 percent tax on car rentals yesterday - the county’s end of a deal for a park-and-ride lot and express bus service for residents who commute to work in Winston-Salem.
The commissioners’ action, which allows the Piedmont Authority for Regional Transportation to collect the tax on car rentals to help pay for transportation services in Stokes, is a part of the process to bring PART services to Stokes, but is not the final say, said Commissioner Leon Inman, the board’s chairman...
...In other business, the commissioners discussed the proposed position of mental-health coordinator.
County Manager Bryan Steen recommended that the county pay a coordinator between $28,979 and $48,468 a year.
The mental-health coordinator would “serve as the local referral source to assist consumers, potential consumers and the general public in obtaining mental-health services,” Steen said in his recommendation to the commissioners.
