Bully Pulpit

The term "bully pulpit" stems from President Theodore Roosevelt's reference to the White House as a "bully pulpit," meaning a terrific platform from which to persuasively advocate an agenda. Roosevelt often used the word "bully" as an adjective meaning superb/wonderful. The Bully Pulpit features news, reasoned discourse, opinion and some humor.

Clinton Gets Emotional on Campaign Trail

(ABC News) - Campaigning in New Hampshire one day before the first-in-the-nation primary, Senator Hillary Clinton got emotional and had tears in her eyes as she spoke with voters about how hard it is to balance a busy campaign life and her passion for the country's future.

Just saw the clip on TV. It made me think of the Tom Hanks quote from 'A League Of Their Own,' the movie about the all-women's baseball league: "There's no crying in baseball!"
There's no crying in politics, either ... or really shouldn't be.

Ask Pat Shroeder about that. Her little crying jag in public cost her any serious shot she had at the 1984 Democratic Presidential nomination. A lot of people think Hillary is the first mainstream female pol to run for the top job. Not so.
