S.C. considering cigarette tax hike, smoking bans

COLUMBIA, S.C. (The Times and Democrat) - Historically tobacco-friendly South Carolina is considering a series of measures that would ban smoking in indoor, public places, increase the lowest cigarette tax in the nation and prohibit adults from lighting up in cars when children are riding along.

It look llike South Carolina is getting closer to the 21st Century when it comes to the obvious health problems associated with tobacco. We could certainly use a smoking ban of some sort in the state. And having some of the lowest taxes in the land is only encouraging kids to start and then to keep on smoking.

Do you want your mommy government to come tie your shoes for you in the morning and tuck you in at night, too?

The sad thing about idiots who ask for the government to be their mommy is that the government is always willing to oblige. Unfortunately, it then becomes my mommy too, whether I want it or not.
