Deadly Plane Crash was First Fatality for Elkin Airport
ELKIN, N.C. (WGHP) - The fatal plane crash that occurred at Elkin Municipal Airport on Sunday, was the first fatality in the airport's history.
According to airport officials, the plane was a Rans RV-4 recreational home-built aircraft. It crashed on the airport runway on take-off around 4:15 p.m. Sunday afternoon
An airport official said two explosions were heard, and there were lots of flames.
The pilot, who died in the crash, was flying with two other friends who were in separate airplanes. All three were from Greensboro.
The crash occurred just 25 miles from Mount Airy, the location of a plane crash that killed six people on Friday.

In reading about the Elkin crash this evening, I noticed a discrepancy in reporting the model of aircraft.
No such thing as a RANS RV-4. RANS models begin with "S".
If it is an RV-4, it is a Van's RV-4, named after the founder, Richard (Van) VanGrunsven.
Just some facts for you. To nonaviators, RANS and Vans may seem the same, but it's like calling an Audi an Acura.
Thanks : )
