Bully Pulpit

The term "bully pulpit" stems from President Theodore Roosevelt's reference to the White House as a "bully pulpit," meaning a terrific platform from which to persuasively advocate an agenda. Roosevelt often used the word "bully" as an adjective meaning superb/wonderful. The Bully Pulpit features news, reasoned discourse, opinion and some humor.

Feds Greenlight Winston-Salem Northern Beltway

WINSTON-SALEM (WXII12.com) - A stretch of highway designed to alleviate traffic congestion on roads around Winston-Salem cleared a final hurdle Friday.

Federal officials approved a "record of decision" to allow the Northern Beltway to move forward.

The Northern Beltway consists of a western portion, which will extend from U.S. 158 north to U.S. 52, and an eastern portion, which will extend from U.S. 52 north of Winston-Salem to U.S. 311 southeast of Winston-Salem.
