Bully Pulpit

The term "bully pulpit" stems from President Theodore Roosevelt's reference to the White House as a "bully pulpit," meaning a terrific platform from which to persuasively advocate an agenda. Roosevelt often used the word "bully" as an adjective meaning superb/wonderful. The Bully Pulpit features news, reasoned discourse, opinion and some humor.

Republican Rep. Coble endorses Mitt Romney for president

GREENSBORO (AP) - Representative Howard Coble is endorsing Mitt Romney in his bid for the White House.

Coble said Monday he is impressed by the former Massachusetts governor's success in the business world and his leadership in government.

Coble's endorsement comes a day before about two dozen states vote in presidential primaries. Coble, a Republican, represents the 6th district, which includes parts of Davidson and Guilford counties.

Fellow Republican Representative Virginia Foxx has also endorsed Romney, but North Carolina's other GOP congressional members are split.

Senator Richard Burr has endorsed Arizona Senator John McCain, and Representative Sue Myrick had endorsed former Tennessee Senator Fred Thompson before he dropped out of the race.

Senator Elizabeth Dole has not announced her presidential endorsement.
