Bully Pulpit

The term "bully pulpit" stems from President Theodore Roosevelt's reference to the White House as a "bully pulpit," meaning a terrific platform from which to persuasively advocate an agenda. Roosevelt often used the word "bully" as an adjective meaning superb/wonderful. The Bully Pulpit features news, reasoned discourse, opinion and some humor.

Mixed drinks, ABC store on May 6 ballot

PILOT MOUNTAIN (The Pilot) — Citizens will have the final say in whether the town of Pilot Mountain expands the availability of alcohol within its limits, but some residents and business owners already feel they’ve lost a chance to make their voices heard.

Town commissioners voted unanimously Monday night to allow a referendum on liquor-by-the-drink sales and establishment of an ABC board during the May 6 primary elections. Town leaders hope an ordinance allowing more alcohol sales will bring more revenue to the town and provide a valuable economic development tool.

Marie and I were just commenting that Mt. Pilot needs an ABC store.

That's what Cousin Gary's Restaurant needs: Liquor-by-the-drink. Ha! :-)

What would be the closest ABC store to Pilot? Mt. Airy?
By the way, if LBTD passes in Pilot, they'll have it before Boone! I find that pretty amazing.
Passing the LBTD ordinance in Pilot would eventually bring more restaurants to town; you'd probably end up with a Chili's, Applebee's, or some other fern bar right there next to 52 not long after it passes.

I understand there is a consortium holding property in Pilot for just that purpose. Rest assured that the town council didn't just get a wild hair up their butts and decide to put an ABC vote on the ballot. Those votes are always cantankerous, so it has to be worth the trouble to go through the pain.

I wonder if The Sportsman Lounge will have to hire bouncers. Now that's funny!

I wish the Pilot Mountain town council would have voted up-or-down on the issue. That's what they are elected to do.
