Bully Pulpit

The term "bully pulpit" stems from President Theodore Roosevelt's reference to the White House as a "bully pulpit," meaning a terrific platform from which to persuasively advocate an agenda. Roosevelt often used the word "bully" as an adjective meaning superb/wonderful. The Bully Pulpit features news, reasoned discourse, opinion and some humor.

Wildfire imperils homes

About 300 acres burns on Sauratown Mountain in Stokes as crews battle to contain the flames

KING (Winston-Salem Journal) -
Thirteen-year-old Michael Brooks and his dog Blue watched for hours yesterday as fire crews battled the wildfire on Sauratown Mountain in Stokes County.

The fire burned about 300 acres and threatened about 15 houses on the steep and rocky slope.

Brooks hiked up the mountain from his grandparents’ house on Doyle Cromer Road, hoping to help.
