Bully Pulpit

The term "bully pulpit" stems from President Theodore Roosevelt's reference to the White House as a "bully pulpit," meaning a terrific platform from which to persuasively advocate an agenda. Roosevelt often used the word "bully" as an adjective meaning superb/wonderful. The Bully Pulpit features news, reasoned discourse, opinion and some humor.

Crowds flock to rain-shortened Mayfest event

PILOT MOUNTAIN (The Pilot) — For two days, the crowds at this year’s Mayfest Celebration came close to matching the record number of vendors and booths. Then, on Sunday, the rains returned.

For most, Sunday’s washout could do little to dampen the enthusiasm of a busy weekend. But for some vendors, even Friday and Saturday’s beautiful weather and large crowds were tempered by the hint of a tightening economy.
