Bully Pulpit

Perdue wins Democratic nomination for governor

(Winston-Salem Journal) - Beverly Perdue appeared headed toward a large victory over Richard Moore in the Democratic primary for governor.

With 53 percent of precincts reporting, Perdue led Moore by a 14-point margin, and the Associated Press projected Perdue as the winner.

Perdue is currently the state's lieutenant governor, and Moore is the state treasurer. The two ran ambitious, well-organized and well-financed campaigns. They each raised about $7 million during the primary campaign – far more than any of the candidates on the Republican side – and they have filled the TV airwaves with television ads.
