Bully Pulpit

The term "bully pulpit" stems from President Theodore Roosevelt's reference to the White House as a "bully pulpit," meaning a terrific platform from which to persuasively advocate an agenda. Roosevelt often used the word "bully" as an adjective meaning superb/wonderful. The Bully Pulpit features news, reasoned discourse, opinion and some humor.

Michelle Obama and Louis Farrakhan Take On Whitey

I learned over the weekend why the Republicans who have seen the tape of Michelle Obama ranting about “whitey” describe it as “STUNNING.” I have not seen it but I have heard from five separate sources who have spoken directly with people who have seen the tape. It features Michelle Obama and Louis Farrakhan. They are sitting on a panel at Jeremiah Wright’s Church when Michelle makes her intemperate remarks. Whoops!! When that image comes out it will enter the politcal ads hall of fame. It will be right up there with the little girl plucking daisy petals in the famous 1964 ad LBJ used against Barry Goldwater.

This is for Strother, who I'm sure will be able to tell us why it will make no difference to anyone, even if the pubbies manage to keep a lid on it until September. I think I'm pretty firmly convinced at this point that Obama is not just associated with black racism, he is an active participant.

Isn't this presidential campaign pretty?

We have The Beast in Pants Suits, whose organization makes Capone's look like a sewing bee, we have the publicly insane fascist, John McQueeg, and we have Louis Farrakhan's little brother, Obama.

Oh yeah, the next eight years ought to be just freakin' awesome.

I'm sure Strother will find that tape "entertaining" too.

You could say that these presidential campaigns are nothing but entertainment, Anon.

Steve taunts: "This is for Strother, who I'm sure will be able to tell us why it will make no difference to anyone, even if the pubbies manage to keep a lid on it until September ... More wishful thinking from Steve (esp. since Hillary, who RINOs and their ilk love to hate, has basically conceded) ...

This race isn't going to be about a square, rich uppity woman with a slick political machine behind her, an old and slightly-nuts-but-rich-w/-rich-friends white dude/POW, and a young sophisticated rich multiracial man with a revolutionary energy.

No, it's all about cronyism: the two cronies and the one 'new guy.' The American public will say that they're tired of cronyism. (Translation: They're tired of our crappy president, Dubya.)

This scenario is especially bad for the Republican crony because the Republican president currently in office is a widely recognized moron. In this case, and in this election, the new guy will have the edge. Sorry, just being realistic.

Strother, you make it sound like Obama is the second coming of Christ. Ha! Seriously, Obama is a crony just like everybody else with the difference being Obama chose to associate himself with extreme radicals, thugs & known terrorists. Remember, he's a part of the Chicago political machine which is pretty much like the mob.

I especially like the way Strother throws out the wishful thinking line and then dances off into some alternate universe.

Like Nature Boy says, Obama is no less a product of cronyism than Hillary or McCain, it's just a different flavor. Read the article. His ascension is the product of doing obeisances at the foot of Farrakhan's throne.

The GOP strategists are rolling in the aisles. If Hillary does concede, the Democrats will be handing them the biggest powder-puff candidate since Michael Dukakis. Strother may sincerely believe that Obama's Magic Negro-ness (which is about dissipated at this point) will carry him through the TV commercials showing hordes of angry black Muslim radicals and endless quotes from the UCC fruitcakes, but the rational among us know that as wishful thinking taken to extremes.

Maybe — but cronies like Hillary and McCain — the undeniable, tried and true, well-known Washington movers and shakers — are what Americans seem to be so tired of. Thank Dubya and his ilk for much of that negative energy and disdain for Washington. It's the same reason why a guy like Ron Paul had such energy early on in the pubbie primaries ... He seems fresh, real, honest, and not down with the Washington way. (And he was going strong until primary voters got wind that an actual libertarian in the White House may very well cramp their lifestyle. I digress.)

I am not saying that the majority of Americans will not vote for a crony this time around. They'll probably "have to." But Obama's vibe — " a change in Washington" — creates authentic energy amongst American voters. Populism can become especially powerful when a government has been behaving badly. And this is one of those times.

Andy, you put Obama and Christ in the same sentence, not I. Obama chooses to associate himself with extreme radicals, thugs, and known terrorists? And Chicago politics is like the Mob? You're painting with some broad strokes here, and, I'm afraid, splashing in the puddles of gutter politics.

Extreme radicals: Rev. Jeremiah Wright, Father Michael Pfleger & Illinois state Senator James Meeks. These three people Obama said were his "religious guides."

Known terrorists: William Ayers and Bernardine Dohrn of the Weather Underground, a 1960's anti-war terrorist group.

If you know anything about political history, you know that the Chicago political machine is alot like the mob, going all the way back to the Kennedy days.

I don't see how it's gutter politics when Obama is running on his judgment. Of course, Obama and his supporters don't want to talk about this because it calls his judgment into question.

I've never quite understood why that when people believe that government has been behaving badly, they want more government. Real change in Washington would be stopping the growth of government and cutting it down to its Constitutional levels. Obama's "change" is growing the nanny state.
