Bully Pulpit

The term "bully pulpit" stems from President Theodore Roosevelt's reference to the White House as a "bully pulpit," meaning a terrific platform from which to persuasively advocate an agenda. Roosevelt often used the word "bully" as an adjective meaning superb/wonderful. The Bully Pulpit features news, reasoned discourse, opinion and some humor.

Rush Limbaugh's Morning Update: Too Many

You may have seen this, folks. This week, a lot of your local Drive-By newspapers ran an AP story about glaciers that deserves a second look -- especially if you can read between the lines as I can.

The story begins with the assertion that "global warming is shrinking glaciers all over the world." But then, the article describes a "rare exception" on California's Mount Shasta. Long story short: As a result of more moist air from the Pacific bringing more snow, "the seven tongues of ice creeping down Mount Shasta's flanks" are actually growing.

While claiming this is a rare event, AP mentions another "exception": a small glacier on Mount St. Helens, which is also growing. And similar conditions have also caused glaciers to grow in Norway, Sweden, Pakistan and New Zealand.

Then comes this little line that would slip by most readers, but not me: "Glaciologists say most glaciers in Alaska and Canada are retreating, too, but there are too many to study them all."

Well, how classic. Let me translate this for you, my friends: "There are too many glaciers for scientists to study, and some are retreating while others are growing -- something that has happened since glaciers were created." Yet we're supposed to live in constant fear and re-order our society based on something we have absolutely no control over; we never have, and we never will. (Go try to melt a glacial tomorrow, if you think you can!)

It means you can't trust a word that comes out of the mouths of these global warming alarmists posing as scientists... or reporters. Trust none of 'em; don't doubt me.
