Stokes Home Health takeover vetoed
Commissioners decide unanimously to stick with current system
(Winston-Salem Journal) - Stokes County commissioners voted unanimously Monday night not to sell Stokes Home Health to a private company.
Stokes Home Health, which is a division of the Stokes County Health Department, was established 30 years ago to serve people in Stokes County who are unable to leave home to get the treatment they need. Depending on the need, a registered nurse or certified nursing assistant is sent to the home.
Across the country, many local governments have found it cost-effective to turn over the responsibility for such services to private companies. Officials in Stokes County began considering the possibility of selling Stokes Home Health after an unnamed private company made an offer to buy it.

I believe the proper Constitutional role of government is to provide the people only those critical functions that cannot be performed by individuals or private organizations and that the best government is the government which governs least.
That used to be a key principle of the Republican Party. I say "used to" because this vote by the four Republicans on the Stokes County Board of Commissioners is a good example of what is wrong with the Republican Party today.
