Bully Pulpit

The term "bully pulpit" stems from President Theodore Roosevelt's reference to the White House as a "bully pulpit," meaning a terrific platform from which to persuasively advocate an agenda. Roosevelt often used the word "bully" as an adjective meaning superb/wonderful. The Bully Pulpit features news, reasoned discourse, opinion and some humor.

News Flash: McCain Will Reinstate the Draft (No, He Probably Won't)

By Greg Pollowitz
National Review Online

Keith Olberman and former Edwards spokesman Chris Kofinis are debating whether or not McCain will reinstate the draft based an exchange between Senator McCain and an older woman with a son in the Air Force at a townhall in New Mexico.

Here's the video. What happened is this older woman was making a statement on why she thought it was wrong to give health benefits to illegal immigrants while our veterans are returning home to sub-standard care. Her statement, as you can see from the video, is almost two minutes long. At the very end, she mentions that she doesn't see how we can chase Bin Laden to the "gates of Hell" if we don't reinstate the draft.

It looks like Senator McCain didn't hear that part of it and said, "I don't disagree with anything you've said and thank you. And I'm grateful for your support of all of our veterans."

It's really quite amazing how desperate the Left has become this early in the game. They are taking what is at worst, a gaffe, and turning it into a discussion on why Senator McCain will get us into a land war with Russia. Imagine what's going to happen when there is no bounce coming out of the convention.
