Bully Pulpit

The term "bully pulpit" stems from President Theodore Roosevelt's reference to the White House as a "bully pulpit," meaning a terrific platform from which to persuasively advocate an agenda. Roosevelt often used the word "bully" as an adjective meaning superb/wonderful. The Bully Pulpit features news, reasoned discourse, opinion and some humor.

Rush Limbaugh's Morning Update: The Skinny!

The Wall Street Journal recently ran a lighthearted piece by Amy Chozick, entitled, "Too Fit to Be President?" She facetiously asked whether Obama's trim form could hurt his chances, given that 66% of American voters are slobs... or overweight. "Despite his visits to... greasy-spoon diners around the country," she wrote, "his slim physique just might have some Americans wondering whether he is truly like them." She quoted a Texas housewife, a Hillary voter: "He's too new... and he needs to put some meat on his bones."

Now, this playful little criticism of the Messiah, Lord Barack Obama the Most Merciful, offended Timothy Noah, who writes for the online magazine Slate. He said: "Any discussion of Obama's 'skinniness' and its impact on the typical American voter can't avoid being interpreted as a coded discussion of race." It's a racial attack, my friends! Noah continued: "When white people are invited to think about Obama's physical appearance, the principal attribute they're likely to dwell on, is his dark skin. Consequently, any reference to Obama's other physical attributes can't help coming off as a coy walk around the barn."

In his own coy walk around the barn, Timothy Noah must have found a jackass and traded brains with it. What is offensive is this liberal twit's assumption that all white people suffer the same racial paranoia that he's infected with! It's not offensive to simply notice that Lord Barack Obama is skinny... and, by the way, Noah, you forgot his big ears!
