Obama puts heat on Palin as she boosts GOP ticket
(Yahoo News) - Listening to Barack Obama, it can seem like Republican vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin is the main person standing between him and the White House instead of John McCain.
Obama is putting as much heat on Palin as he is on the man at the top of the GOP ticket, objecting to the Republican Party's portrayal of her as a reformer who can bring change to Washington.
That is supposed to be Obama's distinction, and he's not taking kindly to Palin trying to claim it. Especially when it appears the new star on the GOP ticket is helping boost its standing: McCain has jumped to a dead heat or narrow lead over Obama in the latest national polls since choosing Palin as his running mate.

I can't remember a time when a political party's presidential nominee has gone after the other party's vice-presidential nominee. Do you hear McCain going after Joe Biden? McCain-Palin is going after Obama, like they should. Likewise, Obama-Biden should be going after McCain. For some reason, Obama feels he should go directly after Palin and ignore McCain. That's one crazy strategy.
From Power Line:
The more interesting question is whether Obama is starting to come apart at the seams. As his party's Presidential nominee, he should be doing battle with John McCain, not Sarah Palin. But he seemingly can't help himself. Over the last couple of days, several generally apolitical people have told me that they think Obama has been melting down ever since Palin's nomination was announced. Hysteria does appear to be sweeping the Obama camp, with over the top attacks on both Palin and McCain. One wonders whether their internal polling numbers are really, really bad.
From Power Line:
McCain threw Obama a curve-ball when he selected Palin, and it has Obama off-balance. Actually, the Palin pick might better be seen as a knuckle-curve. The curve ball consists of the gender card, not completely unexpected but still difficult to deal with. The knuckler consists of Palin's instant celebrity status. Surely, Obama did not expect to face the prospect of being matched, or even overshadowed, in this category.
I shouldn't descend into psychological conjecture, but I can't help but wonder whether Obama's inability to resist doing battle with Palin has something to do with dismay over the emergence of a rival false prophet.
