Bully Pulpit

The term "bully pulpit" stems from President Theodore Roosevelt's reference to the White House as a "bully pulpit," meaning a terrific platform from which to persuasively advocate an agenda. Roosevelt often used the word "bully" as an adjective meaning superb/wonderful. The Bully Pulpit features news, reasoned discourse, opinion and some humor.

Place for Nancy

School board examining suitable adjacent sites for rebuilding school

WALNUT COVE (Winston-Salem Journal) - If the Stokes County school board decides to rebuild Nancy Reynolds Elementary School, it will probably have to buy more land.

Many of the 200 people attending the Nov. 10 community meeting about the fate of the school said they hoped that the board would rebuild on the same site rather than on a new site. So, board members asked Thomas W. Hughes of SFL+A Architects to gather more information about the feasibility of doing that.

Rebuilding would require a new septic system and a deeper foundation than the school now has. The school opened in 1923 and has serious structural problems.
