Bully Pulpit

The term "bully pulpit" stems from President Theodore Roosevelt's reference to the White House as a "bully pulpit," meaning a terrific platform from which to persuasively advocate an agenda. Roosevelt often used the word "bully" as an adjective meaning superb/wonderful. The Bully Pulpit features news, reasoned discourse, opinion and some humor.

Stokes County school board asks about costs

Building options to be compared on Nancy Reynolds Elementary

DANBURY (Winston-Salem Journal) - The Stokes County school board will not vote Monday night on the fate of Nancy Reynolds Elementary School.

At a community meeting earlier in the week, board members said that it might be possible to vote on what to do about the school at the board's Monday meeting, but, after a work session yesterday, Steve Shelton, the chairman of the board, said, "There will be no decision."

Instead, board members asked school architects to do more research into what rebuilding on the site would involve. They also asked for a detailed cost comparison between rebuilding and building a new school on a different site.

They may hear a report about necessary site work Monday, Shelton said, but they don't expect the detailed cost comparison to be available earlier than the board's December work session.
