Bully Pulpit

The term "bully pulpit" stems from President Theodore Roosevelt's reference to the White House as a "bully pulpit," meaning a terrific platform from which to persuasively advocate an agenda. Roosevelt often used the word "bully" as an adjective meaning superb/wonderful. The Bully Pulpit features news, reasoned discourse, opinion and some humor.

County funds transportation for mental health patients

(The Stokes News) - At their monthly night meeting on Monday, December 22, the Stokes County Board of Commissioners voted unanimously to fund transportation for mental health patients. The service, which provides for transportation for those patients who have no other recourse, had run into financial difficulty. By early autumn 2008, the money allotted in the budget for the fiscal year which began July 1, 2008, was already spent.
