Bully Pulpit

The term "bully pulpit" stems from President Theodore Roosevelt's reference to the White House as a "bully pulpit," meaning a terrific platform from which to persuasively advocate an agenda. Roosevelt often used the word "bully" as an adjective meaning superb/wonderful. The Bully Pulpit features news, reasoned discourse, opinion and some humor.

N.C. State Coach Kay Yow Dies

Raleigh (Winston-Salem Journal) - North Carolina State's Kay Yow, the Hall of Fame women's basketball coach who won more than 700 games while earning fans with her decades-long fight against breast cancer, died today. She was 66.

Yow, first diagnosed with the disease in 1987, died on Saturday morning after being admitted to a hospital last week, the university said in a statement.
