Bully Pulpit

The term "bully pulpit" stems from President Theodore Roosevelt's reference to the White House as a "bully pulpit," meaning a terrific platform from which to persuasively advocate an agenda. Roosevelt often used the word "bully" as an adjective meaning superb/wonderful. The Bully Pulpit features news, reasoned discourse, opinion and some humor.

Elizabeth Edwards to open furniture store in Chapel Hill

CHAPEL HILL (Winston-Salem Journal) - The wife of a former North Carolina senator and presidential candidate is planning to open a furniture store.

The News & Observer of Raleigh reported Wednesday that Elizabeth Edwards plans to open a store called Red Window in downtown Chapel Hill in October. Town records show Edwards has leased space on Rosemary Street and obtained a certificate of occupancy.

The Chapel Hill/Orange County Visitors Bureau says the store will feature styles and prices similar to a charity store Edwards' mother managed when she lived in Japan.

That store was called The Red Door. Edwards said during a tour for her book "Resilience" that she had bought furniture in High Point for the business.

Edwards is the wife of former Sen. John Edwards. They have a home near Chapel Hill.
