Bully Pulpit

The term "bully pulpit" stems from President Theodore Roosevelt's reference to the White House as a "bully pulpit," meaning a terrific platform from which to persuasively advocate an agenda. Roosevelt often used the word "bully" as an adjective meaning superb/wonderful. The Bully Pulpit features news, reasoned discourse, opinion and some humor.

No to Changes: People opposed to Obama's proposed health-care reform protest outside Hanes Mall

(By Paul Garber, Winston-Salem Journal) - The growing national debate about health-care reform reached a parking lot outside Hanes Mall yesterday as hundreds of opponents to President Obama's plan gathered to protest changes.

A handful of supporters of the plan also gathered to urge support, at times creating a passionate back-and-forth outside of the Golden Corral restaurant.
