Bully Pulpit

The term "bully pulpit" stems from President Theodore Roosevelt's reference to the White House as a "bully pulpit," meaning a terrific platform from which to persuasively advocate an agenda. Roosevelt often used the word "bully" as an adjective meaning superb/wonderful. The Bully Pulpit features news, reasoned discourse, opinion and some humor.

Rush Limbaugh's Morning Update: Hits

From Rush Limbaugh: Before leaving for the August recess, Senate Democrats met with presidential advisor David "Astroturf" Axelrod and the deputy chief of staff, Jim Messina. They're worried about showing up at town hall meetings because attendees actually know more than they do about their health care takeover proposals.

The senators were urged to do more prep work than usual for the meetings -- but not by reading the legislation so they could debate it in the arena of ideas. No, by making sure their diehard Kool-Aid drinking supporters show up. Deputy Messina told Democrat senators: "If you get hit, we will punch back twice as hard." (This is from the White House!)

Dingy Harry Reid said the meeting helped Democrats "understand the fringe that is trying to mess up our meetings." Earlier, Nancy Pelosi accused opponents of bringing Nazi symbols to the meetings.

So who's really getting hit? It's not these feckless Democrats, trying to shove this unwanted health care takeover down our throats. It's the American people getting hit since Immaculation Day. Hit with trillions of dollars in wasteful spending, massive tax increases, record unemployment, bailouts for unions, government takeovers of the auto and banking sectors, energy proposals that will wreck the economy, and this health care madness.

They're tired of getting hit by ill-informed, power-hungry Democrats who insult them at every turn. Here's a warning to all you elected Democrats: Right now, you are standing against the American people. Keep it up, and the real "hit" will be coming your way in November 2010. And I can't wait!
