Bidding farewell to Nancy Reynolds
(By Dean Palmer, The Stokes News) - A rich history grudgingly gave way to the future at Nancy Reynolds Elementary School Saturday morning as former students and teachers wandered the halls for one last time, remembering and searching for keepsakes from the past.
A silent auction was held at the school in preparation for its destruction later this month. According to David Burge, executive director of Operations for Stokes County Schools, original plans to have the building burned as a training exercise have been cancelled due to water concerns. Burge said that according to the Stokes County Fire Marshal’s office, some 30,000 gallons of water would have been required for the project, an amount that could not feasibly be provided. Plans are now for the building to be torn down for disposal.
