The term "bully pulpit" stems from President Theodore Roosevelt's reference to the White House as a "bully pulpit," meaning a terrific platform from which to persuasively advocate an agenda. Roosevelt often used the word "bully" as an adjective meaning superb/wonderful. The Bully Pulpit features news, reasoned discourse, opinion and some humor.

Controversial Former Sheriff Will Run Again

Gerald Hege's son confirms the former sheriff and convicted felon plans to run in November 2010

DAVIDSON COUNTY, N.C. (By Sheeka Strickland, FOX 8 News) - Gerald Hege, the colorful former sheriff and convicted felon, will run again for sheriff next year, his son told FOX8 News.

"Vote for Hege" signs have been popping up in yards across the county over the past week, even though the filing period has not started. The earlier Hege could file for the November 2010 election is February.

Residents along Ridge Rd. said the former sheriff came by Thursday morning to ask them to put campaign signs in their yards. Thursday afternoon, Hege's son, Jerry Hege, confirmed his father was planning to run.
