Bully Pulpit

The term "bully pulpit" stems from President Theodore Roosevelt's reference to the White House as a "bully pulpit," meaning a terrific platform from which to persuasively advocate an agenda. Roosevelt often used the word "bully" as an adjective meaning superb/wonderful. The Bully Pulpit features news, reasoned discourse, opinion and some humor.

Rush Limbaugh's Morning Update: Who Lied?

From Rush Limbaugh: In his September 9th joint address, President Obama claimed talk radio and cable hosts were making bogus claims in order to "kill" health care reform "at any cost." After denying there were death panels in the legislation, Obama said: "There are those who claim our reform efforts would insure illegal immigrants. This, too, is false. The reforms I am proposing would not apply to those are here illegally."

Congressman Joe Wilson reacted to the president's claim with two simple words. He said: "You lie!" Obama didn't skip a beat. He said: "It's not true... And one more misunderstanding I want to clear up: under our plan, no federal dollars will be used to fund abortions."

Okay, so let's fast forward. After threatening to vote against the Democrat bill, the Congressional Hispanic Caucus got what they wanted: the Democrats' health care bill allows illegal aliens to access government-run health care, and will not require verification of citizenship.

And let's fast forward again. Feminist groups and their liberal Congressional allies are having estrogen-laced tantrums over the last-minute inclusion of Bart Stupak's amendment barring federal funds for abortions. They vow it will be stripped from the final bill. Period. End of story. The Democrat bill will include abortion, folks, or there won't be one.

So: Democrats have illegal immigrants covered, and they won't budge unless abortion is covered. So President Obama, a question: Are you ready to apologize to radio and cable talk hosts, and to Joe Wilson? Or are you going to stick with your prevarications, sir? Hmm?
