Bully Pulpit

The term "bully pulpit" stems from President Theodore Roosevelt's reference to the White House as a "bully pulpit," meaning a terrific platform from which to persuasively advocate an agenda. Roosevelt often used the word "bully" as an adjective meaning superb/wonderful. The Bully Pulpit features news, reasoned discourse, opinion and some humor.

Rush Limbaugh's Morning Update: Peace

Rush Limbaugh: In light of the ceremonies in Oslo yesterday, I would like to praise a few unsung heroes...who are actually deserving of a "peace prize."

First, a group of people who work in the most dangerous outposts in the world, gathering information in total obscurity: our intelligence community. Despite the constant ingratitude they endure from liberals – they stand on the front lines, risking their lives to confront evil...so we, and others nations, can live in peace and security.

Next, Ronald Wilson Reagan – who called the Evil Empire out, and –through American strength – brought about the end of the Cold War. And George W. Bush – who responded to the worst attack on American soil – and never let up on terrorists. Their actions...liberated millions.

I would also like to praise giants among us – who work tirelessly to keep our military technology ahead of the curve. From bunker-busters to nukes, armored vests to small arms...these nameless industrialists have helped save more lives than will ever be known.

And finally, the brave men and women of the United States Armed Forces – past and present – who have defended this nation's interests by fighting her battles. In so doing – they have brought freedom to millions of people, in almost every continent of the world. They have spilled their own blood – and sacrificed their own lives...for strangers. They are the greatest peacemakers the world has known – or will ever know.

Not some community organizer from Chicago, thank you.
