(By Laura Graff, Winston-Salem Journal) - U.S. Rep. Virginia Foxx, criticized for a string of polarizing statements made last year on the floor of Congress, drew attention this week for saying that the U.S. government should not pay for education.
Foxx's statement came Tuesday on Capitol Hill, during a discussion about health-care reform.
"Most of the things that have been done by the federal government which are unconstitutional have been done for good reasons," Foxx said. "They're not malevolent reasons, but they're wrong. We should not be funding education, for example."
