Bully Pulpit

The term "bully pulpit" stems from President Theodore Roosevelt's reference to the White House as a "bully pulpit," meaning a terrific platform from which to persuasively advocate an agenda. Roosevelt often used the word "bully" as an adjective meaning superb/wonderful. The Bully Pulpit features news, reasoned discourse, opinion and some humor.

Sarah Palin, Laura Bush to visit

WILKESBORO (Winston-Salem Journal) - Former first lady Laura Bush and former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin are scheduled to visit Wilkesboro this summer for a women's expo, according to the host Blue Ridge Educational Resource Group.

The Complete Woman Expo 2010 will be 9 a.m.-6 p.m. on the MerleFest grounds at Wilkes Community College. The expo is free.

There will be a VIP luncheon for 75 people with Laura Bush at noon. Tickets are $500.

A book signing session, for 75 people, will be held in the afternoon with Palin, before she speaks at 4 p.m.

Palin is scheduled to appear in Charlotte the day before she visits Wilkesboro.
