Gerald Hege opponents will try again to oust him from ballot

LEXINGTON (By Wesley Young; Winston-Salem Journal) - Opponents of former Sheriff Gerald Hege have refiled affidavits to have his name removed from the Republican primary ballot, after the Davidson County Board of Elections quashed an earlier effort on a technicality today.

Hege is running for the office he was removed from in 2003 after pleading guilty to two felony counts of obstruction of justice.

Incumbent Sheriff David Grice is running for re-election and is being opposed in the May 4 primary by Hege as well as Terry Price, who Grice defeated in 2006. The winner of the Republican primary will face Democrat Tommy Evans in November.
