N.C. Zoo's land deals make it largest in U.S.

New forested tract to be used for nature preserve, environmental education

ASHEBORO (Winston-Salem Journal) - The N.C. Zoo is now the largest public zoo in the United States in terms of acreage, officials say.

Zoo officials said yesterday that the zoo has acquired 322 acres of Randolph County forestland to be known as the Selma Trogdon Ward Nature Preserve on Bachelor Creek.

The zoo bought the property from the Piedmont Land Conservancy this week with money from the N.C. Natural Heritage Trust Fund.

The North Carolina Zoo is amazing! It's among the most natural zoos in the world, and also one of the largest. I love going to this zoo.
