Woman Who Portrayed 'Thelma Lou' Robbed in Mount Airy

MOUNT AIRY, N.C. (WGHP) - The woman who portrayed Deputy Barney Fife's girlfriend Thelma Lou on "The Andy Griffith Show" was robbed in 'Mayberry' earlier this week, according to The Mount Airy News.

According to the paper, Betty Lou Lynn, 83, was robbed Sunday while at a shopping center near downtown Mount Airy. Lynn told police a man grabbed her wallet around 4 p.m. and fled. The wallet had $130 inside, according to the Mount Airy Police Department.

Police were notified and after a short foot chase, the robbery suspect, Shirley Walter Guynn, 45, of Cana, Va., was caught. Guynn was charged with common-law robbery and is being held in the Surry County Jail under $10,000 bond.

Lynn was not injured during the robbery.
