Grice trounces Hege: Voters give incumbent Davidson sheriff a big win in the GOP primary

LEXINGTON (By Paul Garber; Winston-Salem Journal) - Sheriff David Grice of Davidson County won a resounding victory in the Republican primary yesterday, beating back former Sheriff Gerald Hege's bid to regain the office that he left in disgrace seven years ago.

In complete but unofficial results, Grice had 9,631 votes, or about 61 percent. Hege had 3,838 votes, or about 24 percent, and challenger Terry Price had 2,274 votes, or about 14 percent.

Grice said he was humbled by the support and surprised at the margin of victory.

"It sends a great message that Davidson County is continuing its move forward," he said.

Hege could not be reached for comment.
